Sign up to the Built World Cup in which 16 teams will go head-to-head from property, architecture, construction and consultancy and raise money for spaces to rehabilitate local communities in Vorzel, Ukraine
Teams from the built environment are invited to sign up to a new 5-a-side charity football tournament: The Built World Cup has been launched by The Developer and ING Media to raise money to support the rebuilding efforts in Ukraine. The tournament, which takes place on Friday 25 April at Powerleague Shoreditch, will see 16 teams go head-to-head from property, architecture, construction and consultancy.
“I hope the Built World Cup allows us to do what we all love – put on our astros and play football, while supporting not just a worthy cause, but one with a clear connection to our sector,” says Tom Hawkins, associate director at ING Media.
The winning team will receive a coveted golden pineapple trophy made famous by The Pineapples awards. Usually handed out for excellence in placeshaping, the tournament offers an exclusive opportunity to win a Pineapple for footy skills.
Thanks to The Crowd, the Built World Cup’s main sponsor, there is also a drinks event to take place after the tournament. With each team’s entry cost at £500, this is an opportunity to have fun and raise money for an important cause.
All entry fees will go directly towards construction of a Community Hub in Vorzel, as part of the Balbek Bureau’s Re:Ukraine Community Hub Project.
Louise Constantine, co-founder and director of The Crowd says they are “a footy-mad group at The Crowd, which makes us so proud to be the main sponsor of the first ever Built World Cup. We can’t wait to find out who has the best skills, the best kit and the brightest boots!”
Founded by Hawkins, Lauren Teague at ING Media, and James Macleod at The Developer, the Built World Cup will provide vital funding for spaces to rehabilitate local communities in Vorzel, Ukraine. Vorzel is a suburb of Kyiv, which was devastated during the early months of Ukraine’s invasion. Donations will be allocated towards construction and engineering documentation to provide a smooth transition into the constructions stage of such a key centre.
The initial concept, RE:Ukraine Housing, aimed at providing dignified temporary housing for internally displaced persons. As the project progressed, and the community’s needs were evolving, the concept to create a centre that would cater to a broader audience was created.
“RE: Ukraine Community Hub project was initiated by a team of architects and designers, so it feels truly special to see this project resonate with the UK’s architecture and development community. […] Your support will play an integral role in providing people of the Vorzel community and internally displaced persons with crucial social services,” says Slava Balbek, CEO and co-founder of Balbek Bureau.
